Isn't it daunting which type of sofa you'll purchase and from where? Does it fit our budget? Which color? Suede or leather?
Functionality and style without breaking the bank was our goal. Having moved to a new place with no IKEA to run to (now I realized there's a happy place called Lazada), we were lost in the beginning.
If you're a coffee and design addict looking for a sheer cubist experience, head over to Grand Cafe Orient in Prague's Old Town. Originally designed by Josef Gocar, one of the founders of Czech Cubism movement in 1912. Everything in the interior from wall covering, lighting, furniture, down to the last detail of coat hooks clearly have cubist style.
Grand Cafe Orient sits on the first floor of House of the Black Madonna, it was recreated based on its original design as seen on old photographs and remaining surviving plans and was re-opened in 2005.

I'm currently looking forward to my in-laws' visit and one-week stay at home, I'll definitely be cooking up a storm all week. When I look at my current kitchen, the only colorful collection I could find are travel magnets on the fridge. I have a tea bag painting that I intend to hang up on the wall. When I saw this image, I knew I had to post this -A Bohemian themed artwork can spice up a dull modern kitchen counter.
It's in my list of places to visit: The Farm, a luxury eco-friendly restaurant tucked away within an oasis of greens and manicured lawns along Emirates Road in Dubai. It's located within the residential community of Al Barari. The tropical foliage against the desert landscape creates a cocoon around this hidden design gem.

The Farm is a project designed by Lesley Zaal, co-founder of Etcetera Living - one of my favorite Interior Designers based in Dubai. Etcetera Living also has a gorgeous furniture boutique along Jumeirah Beach Road.
You must think I've been living under the rock. It was only last night that I got to see 500 Days of Summer and I fell in love with it. The scenes are artistic and the interiors in this film just took my breath away.
One of my favorite things to do that never fails to cheer me up when I'm down, is browsing through furniture shops. Being surrounded by home ware, furniture and accessories always light up my spirits and give me a shot of enthusiasm. Energy levels elevate with or without a shopping bag upon leaving the store.
It's the Dubai Shopping Festival! One word- Sale. Over the top discounts. The best season to buy in Doobie-land. Think Dubai, probably inspired by the words "Do Buy". Annually, this festival falls on January that lasts for a month. From fashion to electronic stores with large red banners screaming our favorite word. It's the best time for tourists to take that Emirates/ Etihad flight stopover and enjoy the 12- 14 Degrees Celsius temperature having lunch outdoors while staring at Burj Khalifa.
Hello everyone! The New Year inspires us to get hands on in organizing our homes. For the most part, I'm wondering how this design blog will evolve. A part of me wonders whether I should give it up, but my resolve to continue triumphed over that thought.Since I have left my 8-5 er, I have spent many months traveling and exploring, that paved the way to a lot more inspirations on its twin blog, Travel Gourmande. I suppose it's also my way of avoiding what's next in my career. I was about to start working for a hospitality interior design firm last year. However due to bad timing, that didn't fall through. As I travel light this year, my objective is to narrow down career choices by being absolutely sure what I would like to specialize in. (If you have any clue, please be so kind to tell me :)) I think the hardest was figuring out between what I should be doing and what I want to do. While I'm in that phase, this blog will be a chronicle of that search. My aim for this blog is to be with you as you design your home. If this blog can contribute in any way, then I have achieved my goal. And it starts now..
1. Laurent Dining Chair by Freedom (Australia) / 2. Tolix Cafe Chair by Pottery Barn / 3. Lyle Side Chair by Crate and Barrel / 4. Redsmith Dining Chair by Anthropologie / 5. Tolix.fr colors

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Re-painting the piano to a colorful hue to match the shelves is a great idea to boost the bohemian spirit in this apartment featured in Contemporist designed by Incorporated Architecture and Design in New York.
Mixing various styles to create home. These images from Marie Claire Maison jumped right at me. I'm intrigued by how well the owner of this apartment combined both modern and traditional accessories. Using glass partitions to optimize the space, invited a lot of light in at the entrance.

I like the idea of bath tubs situated at the center of the room. I remember my first year in an Interior Design course one summer. We were designing a master bath and I placed my bathtub at the corner. My architect teacher stared down at my work and said, "Stop designing like an architect! Forget the plumbing. Design like an interior designer." She's right. Since then, my world opened up to being more flamboyant and more experimental. Every time I see a bath tub at the center of the room, I think about my teacher. (Is that weird?)
Whether it's traditional or contemporary, it allows great circulation around the tub set next to an open shower area or a dry space.
There are several decisions to be made when planning the dining space. Should it be private or open to the living area? How many seating is required? What happens when more guests arrive beyond the seating capacity? Should it be incorporated within a kitchen? Or should it be held separately on its own adjacent to it?
I happen to have a lot of time in my hands the past few days so I have been stalking Contemporist and found this innovative design of an expansion and remodeling of an old rail house in Sanpoort-Noord, Netherlands by Zecc Architects .
Last July, I mentioned here that I was finishing the design and execution of an Office Renovation. The project has now been completed and a formal launch will be held soon. Here's a current image of the sitting area at reception. The chartreuse arm chair is a recent addition to liven up the monochromatic grey and white colors of the interior. The blue suede poufs were customized. You'll definitely be the first to witness the project images here once the photo shoots are done.

I'm going away by the end of the week to kick off my sabbatical. Since I will be escaping the desert heat for a short period, I would like to feature an interesting gem in the Middle East that I was fortunate to have seen.
Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara lies off the coast of Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates at Sir Bani Yas Island. It is a natural island with a wildlife reserve of 34 sq. mi or 87 sq. km.
How to get there?
How to get there?
Been suffering from a dose of procrastination for the final touches of the corporate office design & construction I was working on for months now. Everyone has moved into their new office spaces and I'm out purchasing accessories and styling pieces for the public areas (area rugs, coffee tables and etc.) The style is modern as you can see and it feels surreal to actually walk through a space that was just a sketched image in my head.
One of the challenges we face is having to import most of the stuff all the time and this would require a lead time of minimum 8 weeks before delivery. I'm happy and pleased to have purchased this rug for the reception area that is on stock! The Ora Ito Parquet Rug from Stepevi
I'm selecting the colour: Bleu. Ora Ito is a collection of carpets created for STEPEVI decorated with lines and reliefs and playful linear units. It recreates the parquet look of a wooden flooring. It comes at a standard size of 240cm length x 170cm width. You can put the colors together which I personally think would be brilliant in a long corridor. This would be to add color to the grey, silver and white scheme in the public areas.
Still need a coffee table, plants, floor lamp (to replace the one in the picture), ottomans, lounge chair.. I better get back to work.
Have an awesome day!
XOXO,
Arni
